Blended Learning in Higher Education: A Comprehensive Study

Abstract


Blended Learning is a strategy that creates a more integrated approach to teaching learning process where different

learning environments like Face-to-Face, online, social networking etc. are mixed with a goal to provide the most efficient and effective instruction experience.

This strategy makes use of advance technology to provide training and development in higher education and within industry. Its rapid growth has been facilitated by the Internet and other emerging technologies like cloud computing, social networking etc.

Over the last two decades an impressive body of research has accumulated on the topic of e-learning and blended learning. This study will provide an evolution of Blended learning from the era when everybody started using some or the other ways of using computers for teaching and learning till today where e-learning has come to age and usage of mobiles for learning is in process. It also provides a view about the various challenges that may be faced while offering blended learning in higher education.

This paper will provide directions for blended learning environment which can be used by institutions of higher learning to make decisions about the learning and teaching initiatives. It also discusses about how blended learning can

improves working conditions, improves teaching and benefit student learning process.

The general conclusion drawn from this work is that blended learning approach offers the most efficient and effective

way of teaching learning process in fast changing, competitive global arena of higher education. Also, this paper in the end, recognizes Mobile computing and the current challenge of making as much as information as openly accessible to all—are among the technologies most likely to have a impact on teaching and learning in the years to come.
